Pitman Theatre

8:00 PM

Consider the ordinary gesture: your arm as you reach for a cup, your wrist as you twist a door knob, your leg as you step off a curb. Now remove the context from the gesture. Suddenly, the ordinary becomes extraordinary. And with Trisha Brown, the extraordinary becomes magical.

Trisha Brown, the most widely acclaimed choreographer to emerge from the postmodern era, first came to public notice when she began showing her work with the Judson Dance Theater in the 1960s. She pushed the limits of what could be considered appropriate movement for choreography and changed modern dance forever. This “hot-bed of dance revolution” was imbued with a maverick spirit and blessed with total disrespect for assumption, qualities that Ms. Brown and her work still exhibit today.

The program for Alverno Presents will include her new work “I’m going to toss my arms—if you catch them they’re yours,” as well as classics from the Brown repertory— “Les Yeux et l’ame,” “Foray Foret," and “Watermotor.”
