Kayhan Kalhor & Brooklyn Rider

Saturday, February 4 2012

Pitman Theatre

8:00 PM

Front and center is Kayhan Kalhor, Iranian kamancheh (spike-fiddle) virtuoso. (Do we even have an instrument with a name as cool as "spike-fiddle" here in America?!?) Kayhan and his kamancheh were last with us in 2005 with Shujaat Husain Khan and his sitar. Magic was made. This time, Kayhan is bringing Johnny and his violin, Colin and his violin, Nicholas and his viola, and Eric and his cello – the guys from Brooklyn Rider. Their album Silent City got a nice little 7.6 from Pitchfork. We’re pretty sure this is the first ever thumbs-up for a kamanchech virtuoso from the indie media elite.
